Many UK homes are built to hold heat in, which can make summer evenings feel sticky. The goal is to reduce heat gain, move air where you are, and avoid adding unnecessary warmth indoors.
Reduce heat coming in
- Use curtains or blinds on sunny-facing windows.
- Open windows strategically when outside air is cooler.
- Move work or rest areas away from direct sun where possible.
Create personal airflow
Use a desk fan or clip fan close to where you sit, work, or sleep. ClipCool works well for desk edges, shelves, and bedside tables because you can angle airflow directly where you need it.
Bedroom tip
Charge cooling gadgets before bed and keep cables tidy. Do not place fans where they could fall into bedding, water, or be reached by small children.

Build your heatwave kit
Choose a handheld, wearable, or clip-on fan before the next hot spell hits.
